KFC Singapore releases its first ever Umakara Chicken and Shrooms
Poppers on 13th July and I have been wanting to head over for a first-hand
experience! KFC was filled with this aroma Umami spice when I first entered and
I knew instantly that it would be a ‘WOW’ for me! My girlfriend and I have to
wait a whole 20 minutes for the Umakara Chicken and the smell of the spice in
KFC was making us two hungry girls. BUT the wait was worthwhile!
The word ‘Umakara’ is derived from the words ‘Umami’ and ‘Karai’. Umami means ‘Savory’ which is one of the five basic tastes (together with Sweetness, Bitterness, Sourness and Saltiness). This combination of words was chosen by Japanese chemist Kikunae Ikeda from Umai (γγΎγ) "delicious" and Mi (ε³) "taste". Karai means ‘Spicy or Hot’. ,Together, we coined it as Savory Spicy Hot Delicious KFC Chicken!

How KFC Describes it:
Juicy fresh
chicken, steeped in savoury shoyu marinade, then hand coated in spicy crispy
batter and topped with Umami spice sprinkle for that extra flavour. A taste so
indescribably good, it’s beyond words!
Our Verdict: In short: THIS IS THE BOMB.
You can feel the savoury Shoyu Marinate on the first bite and then the
Spiciness came in which gave it this extra kick, making it even more addictive!
You can taste the tenderness and juiciness of the chicken in every single bite.
(Like Seriously?) YES SERIOUSLY! AND the sesame seeds just gave it a more fragrant
taste! I am so in love with this Umakara Chicken that I hope it will be here to
stay! YES, forget about Korean Chicken. Umakara Chicken is the ultimate winner
here - I don’t think any other Marinated Fried Chicken can beat this!

How KFC Describes it: Golden potato bites stuffed with finely chopped
mushrooms, mixed vegetables, chicken meatloaf and onions.
Our Verdict: The taste was nice, rich with Chicken broth taste and mixed vegetables but we do not think that it is worth the price though. I will make a Potato Croquette Recipe soon and you will know why! Very limited fillings, really just a ‘Popper’.

How KFC Describes it: Tender, marinated strips of all breast
meat, hand breaded twice with the Colonel’s special seasoning for an extra
crispy outside and an extra juicy inside.
Our Verdict: Actually I ordered KFC delivery which comes with tender chickens before and I wasn’t that excited to try this as it was dry and soggy the other time when it arrived via delivery. HOWEVER, it was not the case when you dine in at KFC! The tender chickens were indeed tender, juicy and healthy!

Meal Sets:
Overall: I would still go back for a second round! I am loving this Umakara Chicken more than normal KFC Chicken! However, 2 is enough for a meal as you can feel that it is pretty salty after that and Pepsi would be good to quench thirst instead of Sjora! By the way, I changed my Coleslaw to Fries with an additional charge. Also changed one of my Sjora to Milo with no extra charges.
Actually we were pretty thirsty and we headed down to Starbucks to try their new Creations! Watch out for it in the next post!
